Every article can have a real, AI-generated featured image instead of a generic placeholder.
Choosing your image provider
Under Settings → AI & Images, click Configure Image Generation and choose:
- Auto – uses the best available option automatically.
- OpenAI – real, AI-generated images matched to your article.
- SynaPost (free placeholder) – a styled placeholder graphic, no API key required.
Generating and regenerating
A featured image is generated automatically as part of publishing. If you want a different one, open the topic and click Regenerate Thumbnail – this only replaces the image, leaving the article text untouched.
A note on cost
Real AI image generation uses your own OpenAI API key and is billed by OpenAI the same as any other image request through their API. The free placeholder option has no such cost if you’d rather not generate real images for every article.
